A prepaid phone card is a disposable card containing a preset number of long distance minutes that are accessed by dialing an 800 number. Prepaid phone cards are great for summer vacations and for children at camp. There's no need to worry about long distance charges, collect calls or not having enough change for the payphone. Liberty Communications sells prepaid cards in $8 and $11 amounts. The per minute price is approximately $0.11 - $0.14. For short duration calls, this rate is much cheaper than placing a calling card call, because no surcharge is applied to a prepaid card call (unless the call is placed from a payphone). Calling card surcharges often run about $.60 to $.80 per call. On short duration calls you can save significantly by using a prepaid calling card. Don't be fooled by prepaid phone cards with extremely low rates. This pricing gimmick may look attractive, but providers of these cards won't let you make a call without deducting a minimum number of minutes from your card. It is impossible to place a call that costs only the advertised rate per minute. For example, one customer purchased a $0.09 per minute prepaid card from a convenience store, but when they made a one minute call from a payphone they paid $1.00! That's over 10 prepaid minutes deducted for a 1 minute call. We've shopped around, and have found that our card supplier has one of the best values available in prepaid calling cards. Calling Cards Now Available!Liberty Communications can now offer you a calling card with one flat rate of 17¢ per minute with a 65¢ surcharge on each call placed. Effective March 1, all INS Travel Cards and Liberty Communications Calling Cards will be billed at this one rate. No more mileage bands to keep track of, just one simple low price.
